Last night was the M's 8th annual 'Salute to the Armed Forces' night. Prior to the game the Mariner's honored every branch of the service and there were some very moving moments.
They had representatives there from the: Army, Navy, Air- force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard, Reserve Forces,Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled Veterans, American Legion and the USO.
Representatives from all branches of the service along with Mariners line the field for the National Anthem
Present at the game was a veteran who had served in WW II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was almost 100 years old and had been nominated by his son to be the Mariner's guest of honor.
Ken Griffey Jr. out on the field signing autographs for the soldiers after the Armed Forces program.
The M's played a great game beating the Detroit Tigers with a final score of 4 - 2.
It was their second win in this series.
They now have a standing of 6 wins & 6 losses and after their rather rocky start to the season ...
I think they may have found their MOJO again!
Seattle has a new scoreboard this year that tracks all the game being played that night. It's fun to see what the other teams are busy doing and if you click on the picture above and blow it up you will see that the games still in progress have a baseball diamond beside them and shows you the ongoing game status.
It highlights which inning they are currently in and if its the top or bottom of the inning, the number of outs and if there is anyone on base.
Take a look at the New York vs. St. Louis game!!! {Click on the picture to enlarge it for a better look} They are in the bottom (the dot beside St. Louis indicates they are currently at bat) of the 20th inning with 2 outs (the two orange dots at the bottom indicate the outs) with a players on 1st & second (the dots on the diamond).
Wow - what a long game. In the end NY won it 2-1.
It is not the longest game in MLB history, I think the most innings played in the major league game was 23, so while it is not a record breaker it is certainly up there.
The game took 6.5 hours to play and I'm just not sure I would have lasted for the whole game.
I love baseball but YIKES ...
I mean, when you need to take a sleeping bag and change of clothes to watch a game ... count me out.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!
